1 Corinthians 14 26 -40 NIV

Good Order in Worship

²⁶What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. ²⁷If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.²⁸If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God.

²⁹Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. ³⁰And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. ³¹For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. ³²The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. ³³For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.

³⁴Women<sup class="footnote" style="box-sizing:border-box;font-size:.625em;line-height:22px;position:relative;vertical-align:top;top:0;" data-fn="#fen-NIV-28713f" data-link="[f]”>[f] should remain silent in the churches. ³⁶Or did the word of God originate with you? God’s Love and Ours

⁷Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. ¹⁷This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgement: In this world we are like Jesus. ¹⁸There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

¹⁹We love because he first loved us. ²⁰Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. ²¹And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Prayer thought

If we are prepared to pray,

We must also be prepared to be the answer to that prayer

Showers of Blessing

Ezekiel 34; 25 -31

25 “‘I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of savage beasts so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the forests in safety. 26 I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing.[a] I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. 27 The trees will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them. 28 They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will wild animals devour them. ²⁵Large crowds were travelling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:²⁶“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. ²⁷And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. ³⁴“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? ³⁵It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

The Church will let you down

Jesus will never ler you down.

He is comletely trustworthy.

However, let me be very clear about this, the church will let you down

Your local church and individual Christians will let you down!

Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, and It Will Be Given

⁷“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ⁸For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. ⁹Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? ¹⁰Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? ¹¹If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Ask

I wonder can you remember as a child when you had been naughty were you given what you asked for by your parents? Chances are you wouldn’t have. You like I would probably only get what we asked for by our parents if we were good

As humans we must remember to be Christ like to get what we ask for from our Lord.

Seek

Ever mislaid your car or house keys, mobile phone, TV control etc and can’t find them when you need them? Fortunately I’m not that type of person except for maybe the TV remote.

So that w can “seek, and you will find” We must be Committed to Jesus

Knock

We must let Jesus knock at the door of our hearts to let him in to our lives so that we may be saved

New Year’s resolutions

Philippians 3:12-15

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

What can I say about Resolutions, some of us choose to live a healthier lifestyle (cut down/out cigarettes our even alcohol), others choose to diet after the festive period because of the amount of food we have eaten not just on Christmas Day but at our work’s Christmas party and any other parties we attend in this period.

On a personal note I don’t do resolutions basically because a couple of days into it and I literally crash.

As it says in today’s reading It is important hat we forget what was behind us and move forward toward the goal of the call of God.

The Birth of Jesus

2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. ²(This was the first census that took place while^[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) ³And everyone went to their own town to register.

⁴So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. ⁵He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. ⁶While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, ⁷and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

The birth of Christ in a manger exemplifies the essence of servant leadership. As Christians we are called to serve rather than be served. A servant leadershipstyle involves putting the needs of others first, empowering members and helping them reach their full potential.

In the midst of challenging circumstances, Mary & Joseph exhitbited grace and compassion towards each other and the new born Jesus. As Christians we are bound to encounter obstacles & uncertainties, and how we respond to these situations impact’s our teams morale & resilience. By leading with grace & compassion, we create an atmosphere of support and understanding, fostering a culture of growth & resilience.

Prayer

Father, we are humbled by the life of Jesus’ humble birth, which teaches us the value of servant leardership. Help us lead with humility,grace and compassion always seeking to serve. May our lives reflect your love & humility, creating a culture of trust, growth & resilience. Guide us to identify with the needs of our members and provide support and empowerment they need to thrive. May we flourish finding strength in humble beginingsand reaching their full potential. Amen
